Underground Museum

The mining, geology and speleology museum, opened in the Company’s mine in April 2006, is frequented both by local tourists and visitors from abroad. Among the high-ranking guests of the museum are: several deputies of the Nizhniy Novgorod Legislative Assembly, the ambassador of Pakistan in the Russian Federation Mr. Mustafa Ghamal Qazi, the ambassador of Cote d’Ivoire, a tourist group from China and many others.

Visitors to this museum, located at 70 meters below the surface, can tour the gypsum mine, familiarize themselves with the basics of mining engineering and see how gypsum stone is quarried. Part of the museum’s exposition is dedicated to mining history and the history of the local gypsum stone deposit, which began in the 1930s.

One of the rooms hosts a geological exposition comprising some 300 specimens of minerals found in Russia and other CIS countries.

Visitors can go to an underground lake with a waterfall and see specimens of paleotypal pictures found in the caves of France, Spain, Italy and Russia. The museum also offers a quick tour of caves typical for the Ural and Caucasus mountains, with stereoscopes creating a virtual presence effect. A visit to the schungite room is also available.

The museum hosts an exposition of traditional Russian porcelain and handicrafts made at Bornukovo stone-carving factory.

In October 2007, the museum’s exposition was expanded.

This unique museum attracts acute interest and draw a genuine admiration.
