Baron de Jomini Mansion

The mansion of baron de Jomini is situated in one of the most beautiful areas of Gaginsky district (the village of Baronsky) on a picturesque bank of the river Pyana.

This unique house, combining the traditions of 3 countries (Russia, France and Switzerland) was built in 1814-1820.

The mansion, built by order of Alexander I, was granted to baron Antoine Henri Jomini, who lived there for many years and spent a lot of energy to beautify it.

At that time, the mansion was visited by such great personalities as Alexander I, count Pashkov, poet Alexander Pushkin, prince Vyazemsky, and minister Gorchakov. This house witnessed many great events yet it preserved its traditional spirit.

In May 2005, it the Company management decided that the mansion would be restored. When restoration work at baron de Jomini’s mansion commenced in June of the same year, the mansion looked abandoned, decrepit and forgotten.

An ethnic village, adjacent to the mansion and complementing it, draws attention of visitors by its purely Russian warmth.

The beauty of architecture, the natural landscape, and the mansions’ rich history attract tourists from all over Russia and abroad. In 2007, the mansion was visited by approximately a thousand tourists.
